Gucci launched its Cruise 2025 collection on May 13, 2025, at London’s iconic Tate Modern, a venue that reflects the city’s blend of heritage and contemporary art. The collection effortlessly combined Italian flamboyance and British heritage. Gabardine coats with razor-sharp structure were juxtaposed with wild chamomile flower motifs composed of 3-D laser-cut organza and hand-moulded sequins, showing a dramatic contrast of structure and fluidity. Traditional British stereotypical clichés like plaids and tartans were reinvented in the form of heavy beading, transforming them into delicate embroidered fringes that shook at every move.
De Sarno’s creations courted contradictions—excess softened rigour, and austere shapes softened by chiffon, ruffles, and lace. Suede micro shorts gracing the thigh in thigh-grazing shapes and capes that skimmed the thigh provided the look with a 1960s Carnaby Street vibe, and acid-green pussy-bow blouses brought the look up to date. Accessories in the collection had Gucci’s horse connection invoked, with horsebit patterns appearing on suede pieces and the lobster clasp restyled as classy pearl necklaces.
Shoes again emphasised the versatility of the collection. Moccasin-ballet flat pairs and creepers replaced last year’s super-high platforms, without sacrificing style. The show concluded with a parade of sorbet-hued, plissé ball gowns, topped with enormous leather bomber jackets of the same colours, encapsulating the marriage of femininity and ferocity that is modern luxury.
